Artist, founder, and the person at the register.
It has not always been a smooth road. But we get to create every day.
Jason earned his MFA at Cal State Fullerton and a BFA from the Herron School of Art at Indiana University. He worked at the San Diego Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, and taught as an adjunct professor at Cal State Fullerton, San Diego City College and the Coronado School of Art.
He opened VISUAL in 2009 to fill a void he kept running into: there was no real home for the low-brow, underground and urban contemporary art he loved. So he built one, an art supply shop that doubled as a gallery, and refined the vision when he re-opened in North Park: core supplies, solo exhibitions, and professional art advisory and project design.
From a supply counter to murals across the city.
Jason founded the VISUAL Public Art Project, painting utility boxes and murals throughout central San Diego with the artists shown in the gallery. He hosts the Live Art Block at North Park's Festival of the Arts, and curated the large-scale Contribution exhibitions at the San Diego City College Art Gallery.
His own paintings and wall installations have shown at venues across San Diego, and his work has been mentioned in The New York Times. He continues to design custom art, murals and exhibitions for clients citywide.
